National Honor Society Offers a Service to Students

Springbrook’s National Honor Society has in place a free tutoring system in all subject areas. Tutors meet at the convenience of the student and as often as a student needs. It is a great way for struggling students to find accessible help from their peers. Teachers are encouraged to refer students over to the program. To sign up for students, students should fill out a form in either the media center or guidance and will quickly be placed with a tutor whose knowledge and availability match up with that of the student. Any questions....ask the advisor, Sharon Cohen, or any of the officers.

Women in Technology

Women have been under-represented in the technology field, but Springbrook is putting a stop to that. Mr. Pat Yongpradit, a computer programming teacher in the Technology Signature Program has launched The Springbrook Women in Technology Group. The purpose is to provide support and guidance, expose students to women working in IT-related fields, and to recreate the image of a successful information technology student. The inaugural meeting was held on December 15. It was a hit. Eighteen girls attended and discussed how they could promote the idea of women in technology at Springbrook. Cisco, Northrup Grumman, and Lockheed Martin have all expressed interest in supporting them. A grant was recently received from MICCA to help buy some equipment for the club. They are truly serious in their endeavor to promote technology for girls as future careers. Alyssa Parker, one of the presidents, was recently a semi-finalist for a National Women in Technology scholarship. Way to go, Mr. Yongpradit!!!!
