The Herdoiza Sisters


Springbrook's Maria Christina Herdoiza and Stephanie Herdoiza are proud Latina sisters, who have both been selected to play in the Montgomery College Symphonic Orchestra! Maria Christina plays the cello, Stephanie the viola. They are receiving college credit for this activity.

They have danced in various studios since the age of three -- ballet, tap, jazz, and most recently modern and hip hop. Maria Christina was on the Poms Team her freshman year, and Stephanie is doing the same this year.

Maria Christina plans to double major in Dance and Business while Stephanie is interested in Environmental Science.

Both sisters are Honor Roll students.

Quiz Master Challenge Winners!!!!!

The "It's Academic" team won its first round match on Quizmaster Challenge (Montgomery County Cable TV quiz show) on Tuesday afternoon November 28th, with a 375to 300 victory over Sherwood. team members who participated in this competition included: senior captain Steven Feister, and juniors Liza Roisman, Jason Li, and Alec Ridgway. Dr.Maura Ryan from the Social Studies Department is the sponsor.

"Arts on the Block"

“Arts on the Block” is a program that allows young artists an opportunity to strengthen their talents while working on community projects. Springbrook High School can proudly boast that the following students successfully completed the application and interview process and were accepted into the winter/spring visual arts workshop. They are: Mike Fleit, Cydney Gobourne, Etaka Labule, and Aselin Lands. These students, along with others from MCPS have been commissioned to work on a mural for Down Town Silver Spring as well as mosaic walls for local businesses.

The French Club

Several students from the French Club attended the Festival Francophone at Gaithersburg High School on Saturday Novembver 17th with French teachers Mr. Ngide and Madame Willetts. Students participated in a Jeopardy game, a poetry recitation and other activites. French students in grades K-12 participated from around the county.

Springbrook Receives A Grant from Exxon Mobil

Springbrook High School has received a $500 grant from the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program to support the school’s signature computer science program. Mr. Benny Yavetz of Aspen Hill Exxon worked with Computer Science Resource Teacher Joanne Engel to secure the grant, one of 4,000 available nationally to schools served by Exxon or Mobil stations, and funded by the Exxon Mobil Corporation.
